MERIDIAN -- The latest and largest phase of the Village at Meridian was unveiled Friday morning.

Community members gathered to celebrate the grand opening of the major retail project with a ribbon cutting ceremony and water show at the new fountain.

There's a lot to see at the Village at Meridian. The fountain square will feature a timed water show to wow crowds every hour on the hour.

Managers say they've taken their time making sure every detail is just right. One of the coolest features is all the European-style architecture that's used throughout the retail center.

About a dozen new stores and restaurants including Yard House, Kona Grill, Ann Taylor Loft, and White House Black Market open this weekend along with the 15 wall-to-wall screens at Village Cinema.

It's an actual community gathering place, said Hugh Crawford, Village at Meridian General Manager. There's movie theaters, restaurants, retail, but the park and the fountain square area with children's play area. What we've brought to Meridian and the Treasure Valley is something that people haven't seen.

Managers say they want people to view this as a destination. You can come and shop, eat and connect with friends. There's plenty of outdoor seating to do so, too.

This becomes an event area during the spring and summer. We'll have concerts, farmers markets, said Crawford.

It's located at the state's busiest intersection: Eagle Road and Fairview Avenue.

Crawford says stores and restaurants will continue to be added through next summer.

The grand opening celebration continues with promotions and events throughout the weekend.
