SALMON, Idaho -- A recreationist floating with a river outfitter drowned on the Middle Fork of the Salmon River onFriday.

The United States Department ofAgriculture reports the death happened on a stretch of river that runs through the 9,378-acre Papoose Fire area. That's where several teams of wildland firefighters are currently stationed.

Incident personnel reportedly assisted with communications logistics in responding to the death.

Deputies with theLemhi County Sheriff's Department are investigating the drowning.

Those rafting theMiddle Fork of the Salmon are encouraged to check with the US Forest Service at the Flying 'B' Ranch on the Middle Fork of the Salmon River before heading out to the area.

Authorities say that's where the newest hazards and camp information are posted.
