BRUNEAU -- Canadian trapper Pierre Bruneau was part of a trapping party that came upon this area in 1811. His descendants are still in Bruneau.

Among the things that sets Bruneau apart from most small Idaho towns is that it's unincorporated with no mayor, no city services, and no city taxes. This town runs its day to day affairs on the proceeds of an auction.
