BOISE -- The Idaho Foodbank hosted its fifteenth annual Empty Bowls event in downtown Boise on Friday at the Grove plaza.

Volunteers at the Idaho Foodbank collect the handcrafted and hand-painted bowls from artists throughout the Treasure Valley for the event. Buyers were offered the opportunity to purchase one or more of the unique bowls, and then enjoy bread and a hot bowl of soup donated by local restaurants.

Jennifer Johnson with the Idaho Foodbank says proceeds go to help needy families in Idaho.

The community really makes this happen, Johnson said. We have over 2,000 bowls that have been donated, Johnson said. They're hand-painted, hand-crafted, that a variety of organizations and individuals have given to us.

It was only ten dollars a bowl, but Johnson says the Food Bank can turn each dollar raised into three meals.

Typically, the event raises $20,000 to $30,000 dollars.
