BOISE -- This time of year, we meet a lot of folks happy to lend a hand to the growing number of people who might otherwise go hungry over the holidays.

One example of that generosity is at the Expo Idaho grounds where the Society of St. Vincent de Paul is distributing Thanksgiving food boxes, complete with a turkey.

Volunteers were out for 10 hours Monday and will do the same Tuesday.

It's phenomenal. They're very, very grateful. I had one gal this morning just drive out, she started crying, that's why it's worth it to do all this, said Jerry Bertero, St. Vincent de Paul.

Church goers from each Roman Catholic parish in Ada County pitched in for the food.

Bertero estimates that St. Vincent de Paul volunteers will hand out 2,400 to 2,500 boxes.
