Oz Blog, Day Four

Let s start today with an update. Recently, Dr. Oz recommended using a neti pot to help clear sinuses, if you have a problem with snoring. While I don t have a problem with snoring, my wife has a big problem with it... specificallyMY snoring. So, I decided to give the neti pot a try. As usual, the results were enlightening and apparently hilarious to everyone else in the station. Check the video above.

Remember to always use filtered or distilled water in your neti pot. My friend who s in school to be a doctor says tap water in your neti pot can result in an amoeba in your brain. But when I say she ll be a doctor, I mean a Doctor of Psychology. So while she s right, she s probably more qualified to tell me how to deal with the emotional stress of having a brain-eating amoeba, than telling me how to avoid it.

Never-the-less, the treatment seemed to work, and my wife slept soundly. But, that may have just been because she was exhausted from being married to me.

Also, I told you that I d update you on a possible aspirin regimen. Dr. Oz recommends most people take an Aspirin every day, saying it prevents heart disease and cancer. He s a doctor, so I believe him. But, my doctor is also a doctor (that s why he s named doctor ). He disagrees. He says if I were over 50, that he would recommend an aspirin regimen. But, he believes the dangers to my esophagus and the possibility of internal bleeding is too great to necessitate it. So, before starting any medication, talk to your doctor. And for Goodness sakes, NEVER misconstrue anything on this blog for medical advice; except for this... never store your neti pot next to your teapot, this can cause confusion and heartbreak.

Thursday s show was about reducing your risk of a heart attack. There s certain heart disease risk factors that you CAN T control; age, body shape, gender, and family history. The ones you can control include; belly fat, an unhealthy diet, a sedentary lifestyle, smoking, cholesterol, high blood pressure, and stress. Heart disease is still the number one killer of Americans. So, I ll work on reducing my risk factors, if y all do too.
