MERIDIAN-- A busy Meridian intersection reopened Thursday with a new traffic signal.

The Ada County Highway District says construction on the Ustick Road and Ten Mile Road intersection is complete. Work got underway in May.

The new signal replaces a four-way stop. Officials say this will improve safety and reduce delays at the intersection, which has about 17,000 motorists pass through it daily.

The $1.5 million project also added a left and right turn lane to each intersection approach and bike lanes. An additional through travel lane was constructed on each approach and will be used when future improvements are made.

A project to widen Ten Mile Road between Cherry Lane and Ustick Road to five lanes is planned for 2015.
