BOISE A 50-mile torch relay kicked off the opening of the new YMCA Horsethief Reservoir Camp Saturday.

The relay began early in the morning and stretched from the shores of Payette Lake in McCall to Horsethief Reservoir.

A sealed lantern lit from a campfire at the YMCA s first camp property was then used to light another campfire at the new Horsethief Reservoir location. The flame bearers each had a personal connection to the Treasure Valley Family YMCA and its 70-year long camping history in Idaho.

Relay participants used everything from a canoe, a ski boat, a bicycle, horses, a camp truck, to a Cessna airplane to transport the flame to its new home.

The flame was then used to light a campfire on the waterfront beach and begin the Grand Opening ceremonies for the new camp.
