BOISE -- The new guns on campus law will go into effect next month.
The Idaho State Board of Education approved an amendment to its policy on campus safety Wednesday. The update makes it clear firearms will be allowed on campus, but only as covered by the new law or approved by the institution during special events.
The guns on campus law will allow retired law enforcement and those with Idaho's enhanced conceal carry license to take guns on to limited areas of college and university campuses. It goes into effect July 1.
Public colleges and universities around the state are working to update their security plans, and will report those at the August meeting in Pocatello.
