BOISE -- Boise Fire Chief Dennis Doan is helping save a child's life by donating some of his bone marrow.
Doan went into surgery Thursday morning in Salt Lake City, where doctors took about an hour to harvest the marrow.
Bone marrow transplants are used to help people with blood cancers like leukemia and lymphoma.
Chief Doan says he doesn't know much about who's receiving his marrow, only that the recipient is a small child.
He says he's resting Thursday night, and hopes he feels up to returning to work on Monday.
