BOISE-- A teacher in the Meridian School District has an interesting connection to a rock superstar who's just been named the 'Sexiest Man Alive' by People magazine.

Adam Levine is a Grammy award winning singer and coach on the hit NBC show The Voice.

Christine Donnell School of the Arts teacher Shawna Exline wasLevine's fifth grade teacher - and says she had no clue the little Adam she once taught in a Los Angeles classroom would grow into a well-known celebrity.

Adam Levine...I taught an Adam Levine once, Exline said after seeing his name in an online article.

She admits, checking celebrity gossip websites is a bit of a guilty pleasure. Still, she had never put two and two together until now.

It said the world's sexiest man, and so I clicked on it and I got a good look at the person and I thought well, that face looks familiar, she said.

Sure enough, after checking an old yearbook, Exline confirmed her former student was in fact that Adam Levine.

I only taught out of state for one year and so I didn't really think too much about it, said Exline.

But she has the yearbook pictures and memories to prove the connection. She taught at the private Los Angeles Center for Early Education during the 1989-1990 school year.

And I was like in shock. All this time I had no idea, added Exline. She's even listened to Levine's music from time to time, but never bothered to look up Maroon 5's lead singer.

Exline told us she doesn't watch much TV, so she missed his success on NBC's The Voice, too. I didn't know, she said.

Her students think her time spent teaching a future famous musician is pretty cool.

The kids did ask me, 'did he have tattoos?' In fifth grade? I said no, he didn't have tattoos, said Exline with a laugh.

She said at 10 years old, Levine was a typical kid.

He was a kid who was very charming. He liked to play basketball. I remember him running around at recess, said Exline. I can see, he's still charming.

Now that she knows about her former student's successful career, she's using it as motivation for her current students.

Follow your dreams. You never know what can happen, she said.

Exline added that she plans to follow Adam Levine's career more closely in the future.

If you'd like to watch Levine in action as a coach on The Voice, the show airs Monday nights at 7 p.m. and Tuesday nights at 8 p.m. on KTVB.
