HAILEY, Idaho -- Flames from the 92,000-acre Beaver Creek Fire entered the backyards of some homes near State Highway 75 in the Hailey area Friday night and into Saturday morning.

Jim Stuart is a Hailey homeowner who was evacuated late Friday night. Stuart has lived near Queen of the Hills Drive since 1997. He was allowed back home Saturday morning.

'I wish we had a bag packed and ready to pick up, Stuart said. It was kind of willy-nilly, but we grabbed our medicine and everything.

Five hot shot crews were awoken around 2:30 a.m. to continue fighting the misbehaving fire as it expanded, according to public information officer Tracy Weaver.

Weaver says the firefighters put forth a valiant effort in those dark hours. They headed to the Croy Creek area with the intent to stop the fire at Democrat Ridge where it had crossed a fire line previously built by a bulldozer.

They're trying hard right now to build some good black, to get that fire line secured, Weaver said.

Fire managers say the Beaver Creek Fire expanded more than 30,000 acres Friday night. That's a marked increase from the roughly 5,000-acre-growth per day the fire experienced early this week.

Fire activity on Friday saw flames burning north to the east fork of Baker Creek. Inciweb reports indicate the fire produced a pyro-cumulus cloud that reached several-thousand feet high. On its western flank, the fire burned slightly to the north of Dollarhide Summit.

So far, the fire has burned 5 structures, including one home. More than 1,600 homes have been evacuated.
