BOISE A Boise science teacher will embark on a trip of a lifetime this summer.

Chris Taylor, who teaches earth science at South Junior High School, has been selected to go Dr. Robert Ballard s ship of exploration, the Exploration Vessel Nautilus, as it explores the waters in the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean Sea.

Taylor will be among a group of educators and students known as the JASON National Argonauts. He will join the expedition from August 16-23 as the Nautilus goes from Puerto Rico to Montserrat.

I am honored and humbled by this selection to participate in this once-in-a-lifetime research project that will provide me with rich, rigorous and relevant educational training and instructional material that I can share not only with Boise District students but also with the Boise community, said Taylor.

The Argonauts will join an international team of scientists, engineers, students and educators exploring geology, biology, archaeology and chemistry-and will participate in live, interactive webcasts with shore-based audiences during the expedition.

Altogether, the ship will be at sea from June through August and October through November.
