TWIN FALLS -- The Idaho Supreme Court has reversed a restitution ruling that would have given more than half a million dollars to the family of a bicyclist who was killed when he was struck by a truck.

The Times-News reports the high court found that Daniel Straub has the right to appeal the restitution ordered in connection with his vehicular manslaughter conviction in Twin Falls County.

Straub pleaded guilty to hitting and killing David Webster in 2009 and was sentenced to up to eight years in prison. He also agreed to pay restitution to Webster's family, but appealed when a judge set it at more than $550,000.

The high court said restitution should be limited to actual economic damage, and anything more was a matter for a civil lawsuit.
