BOISE -- Representatives from the Boise and Meridian School districts responded to Friday's deadly Connecticut school shooting in different ways.

Neither district took physical precautions after the shooting.Officials from both districts did review emergency response plans. Both schools say students will have options to talk to teachers and staff about the shooting.

Meridian School spokesperson Eric Exline said he was in close contact with district officials and local law enforcement after reports of the shooting first broke.

We made our schools aware of what was going on, Exline said. We touched base with law enforcement.

The response was different in the Boise School District.

District spokesperson Dan Hollar said district officials didn't contact law enforcement, but instead contacted the principal of each school in the district.

We emailed our principals and reminded them that they needed to go over their emergency response plans, Hollar said.

Both Hollar and Exline said they didn't believe any credible threat existed for students in Boise or Meridian.

However, both did say students would certainly have options to talk about the tragedy with teachers and staff.

We would advise that students and parents talk about this tonight, Hollar said. If children have a desire to meet with a counselor, we have counselors in place in schools.

Statement from Boise Schools

Emergency response plans are in place at each of our schools in the Boise School District. Each school's plan has been developed in partnership with our community s first responders - Ada County Emergency Management, Boise Fire Department and Boise Police Department. Each school regularly practices emergency response drills, including evacuations and lock-downs. We continually evaluate our safety and security procedures and this terrible tragedy serves as a reminder to our entire community about the importance of school safety. In light of this incident, the District has notified all principals reminding them of the importance to review their school's safety and security procedures.
