CALDWELL -- A 27-year-old Caldwell man is jailed after police say he arranged to meet what he believed was a teenage girl for sex last week.

Instead, Canyon County Sheriff's detectives were waiting for Michael Joe Brown when he arrived at a local attraction on May 16. Brown was taken into custody and booked into the Canyon County Jail on a solicitation charge of sexual abuse of a minor child under 16.

Sgt. Christopher McCormick said the arrest came after a two-week investigation during which Brown is suspected of soliciting sexual intercourse from a juvenile female by text messages. Police learned about this case early on and took over, texting with Brown to arrange a sexual encounter.

Brown is now being held in jail on $150,000 bond. His preliminary hearing is set for May 31.

The sheriff's office is urging parents to be mindful of who their children are corresponding with via text and email, as well as the type of communication they are involved in.
