BOISE -- The push to recall Owyhee County Sheriff Daryl Crandall has failed.

Crandall, elected in 2008, had been targeted because some people thought he'd created a hostile work environment and wasn't cooperating with other law enforcement agencies.

But Jessica DeGeus, a former employee of the sheriff's department, has failed to get enough signatures to put the recall to a vote in November.

The Press-Tribune reported on Friday that DeGeus, a former dispatcher, was told by the county clerk that her petition was about 150 signatures short of the 1,056 required.

Crandall has said it's impossible to please everyone all the time.

He's also said he has financial challenges to overcome in keeping the law enforcement agency in his sprawling, sparsely populated county in southwestern Idaho operating during the recession.
