BOISE -- Boise firefighters made quick work putting out flames at a former East Boise sawmill Monday evening.

Officials say someone who was passing by called, and reported thick smoke coming from the outside of one of the building just after 7:00 p.m.

Investigators say the flames were contained to a hopper at J.M Thomas Forest Products on East Yamhill Road near South Federal Way.

Officials say welders were working in the area earlier, and were using cutting torches to dismantle the former lumberyard.

Firefighters think heat or a spark from the cutting ignited leftover sawdust.

Damage was minor, and no injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
