BOISE -- Some of Idaho's brightest young minds are building their visions of the future, with raw creativity.
24 teams from around the Gem State and one from Wyoming gathered at the the Boise State SUB Saturday for the annual Future City Competition.
The national competition is part of National Engineers Week and challenges teams of middle school students to envision an ideal urban environment based on a theme.
This year's theme is transportation.
We have seen things like hover boards and electric bicycles, said Future City Committee member Yuri Mereszczak. And we saw one city that used electric eels to power their city.
Organizers say Future City is designed to engage young people in thinking about science, technology, engineering and math in ways that are both exciting and connected to the real world.
The regional phase at Boise State is in its 10th year. The winnner advances to Washington D.C.
