BOISE -- Over 1,500 kids hit the pavement running on Saturday at St. Alphonsus' annual Capitol Classic Children's Race. And race promoters say that turn-out is a huge jump from last year.
The one-mile long race was open to kids ages six to fourteen years old. It started at the Boise Train Depot and finished at the capitol.
Those who crossed the finish line got a free treat, a shirt, and a shiny, Olympic-style medal.
A final monetary prize will be awarded to whichever local elementary school had the most students in Saturday's race. The winning school will have the money donated to their school's physical education program.
