ADA COUNTY -- Officials with the Ada County Sheriff's Office say two men were shooting guns near Highway 16 when they inadvertently hit several cars in the Firebird Raceway parking lot.

Sheriff's deputies responded to the raceway where spectators were asked to stay put while officers investigated what they believed to be an active shooter situation.

The two men saw officers and left where they were shooting to talk to deputies. Officers were then able to match the bullets to the guns and find that it was not an active shooter situation. Deputies say the men were shooting in a legal area but shooting irresponsibly. Both men were charged with reckless discharge of a firearm.

Deputies say there is no threat to the public.
