BOISE -- A dozen college students from Oregon are spending their spring break in Boise volunteering.

The Willamette University students are helping the Cathedral of the Rockies transform an empty parcel of land into a fruit orchard and walking garden. The land is at 11th and Fort streets.

The students worked on the walking path and irrigation system today.

They chose this because they were looking for a project related to food justice.

Looking at how we can provide food to members of the community equally, in a way that is going to nourish them and sustain them, said Jessica Munoz, Willamette University student.

The next phase of the orchard project will be securing donations for the fruit trees with the hope of planting them within the next month.
