TWIN FALLS -- A 44-year-old Twin Falls man has been sentenced to eight to 25 years in prison for having a sexual relationship with a 16-year-old girl.

District Judge Michael Crabtree sentenced Robert Benjamin Brackett on Monday, saying Brackett would be eligible for parole after serving eight years. Brackett was found guilty in February of five counts of sexual battery on a minor and eight counts of possessing child pornography.

Brackett acted as his own attorney at trial, even briefly questioning himself as a witness.

Prosecutors say the relationship came to light after Brackett and the girl argued in January 2011, leading her to report the relationship to school counselors.

Brackett has been jailed since his arrest and will receive credit for time served.
