BOISE -- Federal prosecutors say a former Meridian Middle School counselor has pleaded guilty to sexual exploitation of children by producing sexually explicit images of minors.
Mark Alan Saltzer, 45, of Boise, entered the guilty plea Tuesday in U.S. District Court, according to U.S. Attorney Wendy J. Olson.
Saltzer was arrested at his home last August. Investigators say two minor boys were in the home at the time of Saltzer s arrest. Saltzer admitted to repeatedly sexually molesting one of the boys starting in the summer of 2012. Saltzer has been in jail since his arrest.
Authorities begin their investigation of Saltzer in October 2010. According to court documents, Saltzer was a member of an Internet group that traded child pornography with other members. He participated in the group for more than a decade.
According to the plea agreement, Saltzer admitted that between 2006 and 2013 he produced sexually explicit videos of numerous boys between the ages of 11 and 17. He met and engaged his victims through Internet chat rooms.
Sentencing is set for Oct. 15, 2013. Saltzer faces 15 to 30 years in prison and a maximum fine of $250,000.
