NAMPA -- The Nampa Public Library broke ground today on its new home.

The Library Square groundbreaking celebrates the start of construction on the new Nampa Public Library building, parking garage, public plaza, commercial office space and retail buildings.

Nampa Mayor Tom Dale read to the kids who were there this morning for the event.

Nampa's public library was built in 1919. The library currently sees about 1,000 patrons each day, which is expected to at least double when the new library opens.

The library is expected to be complete in the fall of 2014.
