BOISE -- A major grant ceremony on Thursday saw $120,000 dollars distributed to state organizations that support a wide range of activities for kids in Idaho.

The cash came from the John William Jackson Fund. This is the 10th year of this annual event, which has seen more than $350,000 donated since 2003.

The fund was established in memory of Meridian's John Jackson by friends and family in 2001. Jackson was a member of the Boise National Soccer Team and studied psychology at Georgetown University. He died in a rock climbing accident in central Asia. Get more info here.

Among other things, the grants help supply musical instruments to Idaho schools, introduce children to music and opera, provide scholarships, and help in funding outdoor sporting opportunities for Idaho kids.
