BOISE -- A water war is underway in Haiti, and it is costing lives.

The unfortunate situation prompted one College of Idaho student to start a project called, Water for Peace.

Margarette Pierre-Louis grew up in a small Haitian village, where she and other women and children would walk hours each day, just to gather drinking water.

However, Pierre-Louis says the battle over water escalated last November, when her cousin was caught in middle of a fight a watering hole. Her cousin later died from her injuries.

Now, she is going to school in Idaho, and is raising funds for her project.

So everyone can have water, and they will share so they can be together. I want to make them feel that conflict should be stopped, said Pierre-Louis.

Pierre-Louis wants to raise enough to install 40 tanks, then go back to Haiti and supervise the project in person.
