SPOKANE, Wash.-- A driver walked away from a crash early Tuesday involving a moose outside of Spokane.

Authorities said the driver was on Cheney-Spokane Road and Cedar around 7:30 a.m. when the moose bolted out of the woods. The driver slammed head-on into the animal, flinging it to the side of the road. The moose died a short time later.

The moose caused severe damage to the car; shattering the windshield and destroying the body of the car. Fortunately, the driver escaped without any major injuries. He only suffered glass cuts to his hands and face.

One lane was blocked while crews cleared the scene.
