BOISE -- A 19-year-old man is now charged with murder in the death of his infant son.
Reynaldo Lucas Sanchez was arrested Friday evening after the 3-month-old boy was injured while in his care.
Sanchez was arraigned Monday afternoon on a charge of first-degree murder. He remains in the Ada County Jail without bond.
The Ada County coroner reported Monday the baby boy, Adrien Sanchez, died Saturday of blunt force trauma to the head and his death was a homicide.
During today's arraignment, prosecutors detailed what happened at the Sanchez home. They say the boy was having trouble breathing and Sanchez called his roommate for help. The roommate administered CPR to the baby before paramedics arrived. Sanchez originally told paramedics that a dog knocked the baby over while he was in the shower. However, that was not true.
Prosecutors say Adrien had a fractured skull and leg, and broken ribs. Additionally, there were pinch marks on his face, more signs the child had been abused. When Sanchez was confronted by doctors at the hospital he became violent and was arrested.
The boy died the next morning at St. Luke's Regional Medical Center in Boise. Afterwards, Sanchez changed his story to police, saying he accidentally dropped Adrien in the bathtub. Prosecutors say that was impossible given the nature of the infant's injuries.
Prosecutors argued for no bail and the judge agreed. They say at 19 he already has a criminal history of three failure to appears and resisting and obstructing police.
Sanchez will be back in court on Jan. 3 for a preliminary hearing.
