A Boise woman who was found dead in a canal in April died from drug use, not drowning, according to the Ada County Coroner's Office.

The body of Alexis Palmer, 40, was found April 17 in a canal behind a church on State Street and Collister.

Coroner Erwin Sonnenberg originally said the woman likely drowned. But the result of toxicology tests proved Monday that Palmer died of acute methamphetamine overdose.

The coroner says the woman was likely in the canal before it filled up with water.

Authorities still don't know how Palmer ended up in the canal.
