TOLEDO, Ore. -- Police say two people died, including a 4-year-old girl, when a small plane crashed near the Oregon coast. A third passenger was critically injured.
Toledo Police Chief David Enyeart said in a statement that the plane went down Saturday at 4:20 p.m. in the parking lot at the Georgia-Pacific paper mill in Toledo.
Douglas Nebert, 51, of Newport was piloting the plane. His 32-year-old stepdaughter, April Gleason and her 4-year-old daughter, Zoey Wahl, of Seattle were in the plane with him.
Nebert and Zoey died in the crash. Gleason was injured and taken by Life Flight to Good Samartian Hospital in Corvallis.
Officials said the family was traveling from Newport to Seattle.
A witness said that they saw the plane flying low and then it started baking into a turn, Enyeart said. The plane's nose was witnessed to have dropped toward the earth and then went straight down.
Enyeart says the National Transportation Safety Board and Federal Aviation Administration have joined the ongoing investigation.
