Former Speaker of the House Lawerence Denney won the GOP nomination for Secretary of State Tuesday night.

He secured 37 percent of the ballot with 50,650 votes. The closest Republican contender, Phil McGrane, received 28 percent with 38,108 votes. Evan Frasure and Mitch Toryanski also ran in the primary.

Denney will vie for the seat vacated by Ben Ysursa, who is retiring. He'll face off in November against Holli High Woodings, who ran unopposed for the Democratic nomination.
