NOTUS, Idaho -- One person died and four others were injured in a head-on crash in Canyon County Saturday afternoon.
The crash happened at about 5:30 p.m. on U.S. Highway 20 near Purple Sage Road.
Idaho State Police say 25-year-old Spook Meras, of Notus, was driving east on the highway when he crossed over the center line and slammed head-on into a Chevy Malibu driven by 74-year-old Eloy Montoya, of Parma.
Montoya, his wife 74-year-old Tillie Montoya, Meras, and two children in his car were taken to Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center in Boise. Eloy Montoya is listed in critical condition, according to a hospital spokesman.
Police say Tillie Montoya died from her injuries at the hospital.
According to troopers, the Montoyas and the two children in Meras' car were wearing seat belts, but Meras was not.
The crash forced the closure of the highway for about three hours.
ISP and the Canyon County Sheriff's Office are investigating the crash.
At this point, there's no word on possible charges.
