POCATELLO -- A suspected case of Hepatitis A prompted the temporary cancellation of visitations at a Pocatello prison for women.
The Idaho Department of Correction on Tuesday suspended visiting for 90 inmates assigned to Unit 2 at Pocatello Women's Correctional Center.
That's after an inmate who was incarcerated there tested positive for active Hepatitis A.
Hepatitis A virus is usually spread by eating or drinking contaminated food items.
While the risk of transmission is low, inmates in the affected unit will receive precautionary medical treatment to make sure they don't catch the disease.
The inmate arrived on October 31.
Just to be cautious, however, IDOC has also suspended all inmate moves into and out of the women's prison for at least two weeks while health care providers watch for more possible cases.
