BOISE -- Hundreds took to the greenbelt for Saturday's 7th annual NAMI Walk in Boise, with hopes of shedding more light on the issue of mental illness.

The event features a 1K-3K and 5K walk for families, friends, and members of the community to raise awareness for mental health services.

Those with the event told KTVB that they want to change how Americans view mental illness, and that their event ensures that help and hope are available for those in need.

This to happen is really symbolic in that we come together and take action, and say, 'You are not alone,' said Adrienne Evans, manager of the NAMI Walk.

This year, NAMI had guest speaker Liza Long. Long has become one of the most sought-after bloggers on the internet after sharing her story of raising a child with mental illness, in the wake of the school massacre in Newtown, Connecticut.
