MOUNTAIN HOME -- Two popular access points for fishing and outdoor recreation at C.J. Strike Reservoir are now off limits to the public.
Idaho Power manages the reservoir and says the closure on and around the dam are basedon public safety and facility security concerns.
The spillway, as well as the walk-in access at C.J. Strike Dam are closed, meaning they will no longer allow fishing.
Idaho Power staff is also expected to install 60 feet of barrier fencing below the dam which will eliminate public access to the tail-race area, a popular spot for sturgeon fishing.
In combination, the two closures obviously represent a significant loss of fishing opportunity for shore-bound anglers, said Idaho Fish and Game fisheries manager, Joe Kozfkay. All indications are that the closure is permanent.
Idaho Power says the restrictions close access to the area on andaround the hydroelctric facility but don't affect the remaining parks, boating facilities, and the C.J. Strick Wildlife Management Area.
The Owyhee County Sheriff's Office will enforce the closure.
