VANCOUVER -- Two 19-year-old Vancouver women were injured in a crash after the car hit a pole and split in half early Monday morning, police said.

Police received the report of a crash at about 2 a.m. on Southeast Mill Plain Boulevard, near 123rd Avenue, said Sgt. Patrick Johns of the Vancouver Police Department.

The car was in two pieces when officers and medical responders arrived. The two women inside were taken to Peace Health Southwest.

The passenger, Caylie Nelson, was listed in satisfactory condition, Johns said. The driver, Molly Mayo, was listed in critical condition.

A witness said the car was speeding and swerving just before it hit the pole. The car broke apart on impact.

Investigators said the occupants of the car had been drinking before the crash.
