BOISE -- When you hear the phrase starving student , you may not take it seriously. But the truth is, college students do struggle with paying for food, books, rent and tuition.

At Boise State, a ministry organization called the Horse Bit Campus Pantry is helping ease that burden.

Deanna Sessions is a sophomore at Boise State and was struggling to put food on the table, pay bills, and pay for school. That's when she heard about the pantry.

It was written on the white board in one of my classes, and I Googled it to see what it was all about, said Sessions, who visited the pantry and went home with a bag full of food. School is expensive, dining at school is expensive, so having this opportunity to pay for books but also knowing I can have dinner at night has been really peace of mind for me.

For Sessions, it makes it easier to focus on her school work. I feel relieved most of all, and then I feel that I can come and no one is judging me because I need a little bit of extra help.

Jeff Davis, a freshman at BSU, found himself in a similar situation while he was looking for a job.

I took the opportunity to come down here and it benefited me so much said Davis. The ability to take a little of that financial burden off of you.

This campus pantry opened in October. Located at St Paul's Catholic Center, it is the result of a partnership between St Paul's and Crosswalks Nazarene Campus Ministries.

The Horse Bit came to be mainly because I saw a need, said Ben Moore of the Nazarene Campus Ministry. We just started working together and it's been a beautiful partnership for us.

The goal is to serve every student or staff member in need who walks in the door. The pantry runs on donations from the public -- from local food banks, churches, and other organizations.

Currently the pantry is open on Tuesdays from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. and Saturdays from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.

You can connect with the pantry on Facebook, or call 343-2128.
