BOISE -- A stretch of Bannock Street in downtown Boise remains closed after a major water break sent water rushing into the street Tuesday afternoon.

The incident happened between Capitol Boulevard and 8th Street in downtown Boise.

A spokesperson for United Water says a construction company working on Bannock accidentally broke a four inch service line that feeds into the post office. The post office water main had to be shut off, and was repaired Tuesday night.

Christine Myron with the Ada County Highway District says crews will be repairing the asphalt throughout Wednesday, and the road will likely be closed throughout the day.

Eventually, crews will return to repair curbs and gutters.
