IDAHO CITY -- After being closed for a decade, The Springs, a hot springs resort in Idaho City reopens today. It was formerly the Warm Springs Resort.

KTVB toured the resort off Highway 21 while it was under construction back in December.

Until the hot springs destination closed, it was a favorite getaway for several decades.

Now, operators of The Springs have added a 16-person hot tub and steam room, along with a brand new lodge.

While renovating and constructing the new resort, the owners say everything was done with local labor, and local supplies and products.

Part owner Wyatt Sharpley told us in December the town of Idaho City is looking forward to having more foot traffic in their stores, restaurants and shops.

When are you going to open? That's all I hear from folks in town, said Sharpley. I've often said that Idaho City without the hot springs resort was like Detroit without GM.

The entire resort site covers 80 acres, and has access to trails for hiking and cross-country skiing.

The operators of The Springs tell us they plan to have live acoustic music on an outdoor stage above the pool during the spring and summer.

In the next few months, The Springs expects to begin construction on overnight accommodations like cabins, yurts and luxury camping tents -- hoping to attract even more tourists to the area.
