CALDWELL -- A Caldwell woman believed to be behind a series of purse thefts is behind bars at the Canyon County Jail Saturday.

Caldwell Police say they were called to Paul's Market Friday after a cashier reported her purse stolen. Officers watched a video of the theft captured by the store's security cameras and say they recognized the suspect from several recent incidents.

Police identified the woman as 44-year-old Maria Delgado.

Delgado was later arrested at her home on the 3400 block of Airport Avenue in Caldwell. Police searched her home and say they found a number of stolen items, including purses, pocket books, and cell phones.

Investigators say they believe Delgado may be involved in a significant number of purse thefts, including at least one in Nampa.

Debit and credit cards from two of the victims had been used immediately following the purse thefts. Delgado was caught on security video using one of the cards at a Caldwell Maverick Store, police said.

Police say they expect to make additional arrests as their investigation continues.

Delgado faces felony charges of Burglary, Grand Theft, and Fraudulent Use of a Financial Transaction Card as well as a misdemeanor charge of Possession of Stolen Property.

If you have been a victim of a purse theft in the Canyon County area in the past couple months, Caldwell Police ask that you contact them.
