TWIN FALLS, Idaho -- A 54-year-old south-central Idaho man has denied charges filed after Buhl police say he and his wife gathered donations for a fundraiser by falsely claiming they were raising money for their daughter's cancer treatment.

The Times-News reports Michael Wayne Holley of Buhl pleaded not guilty to two counts of grand theft by deception in 5th District Court on Monday.

Holley and 44-year-old Lisa Dawn Holley were arrested at a fundraiser in August. Buhl police and Idaho State Police detectives say the girl does not have cancer and is living with relatives in Seattle.

Court records say Michael Holley acknowledged they were trying to raise money to pay for an attorney to try to regain custody of the 14-year-old girl.

Lisa Holley is scheduled to be arraigned on Nov. 13.
