HORSESHOE BEND, Idaho -- Motorists traveling along Highway 55 through Horseshoe Bend on Labor Day experienced some delays, but it was all for a good cause.

High school athletes accepted donations to help sports programs in the district.

After voters rejected two levies, the Horseshoe Bend School district cut around $20,000 in transportation funding from the budget. That money was used to get students to and from sports activities. The budgets cuts have created a challenge for parents and students who may have to travel long distances to get to and from games.

Later this month, there is another fundraiser for the sports program.

The Race 2 the Summit half marathon will be held on Saturday, Sept. 29. Participants can run or walk 6.3 miles to Horseshoe Bend Summit.
