The Federal Drug Enforcement Administration has zeroed in on Western Washington medical marijuana dispensaries that are too close to schools.
DEAagents notified 23 stores Thursday that they are within 1,000 feet of a school, and unless they shut down they will be targeted for search and seizure.
Besides having money and property taken away, dispensary owners could also face criminal charges, according to agents.
Owners were informed they have 30 days to close.
The store names and locations were not identified.
Federal law prohibits the sale of marijuana, contrary to Washington state law.
We need to enforce one message for our students: Drugs have no place in or near our schools, said U.S. Attorney Jenny Durkan.
