NAMPA -- Nampa Police say the department and the Canyon County prosecutor are conducting separate investigations after an incident in which an officer shot a dog on the Fourth of July.
It happened at about 9 p.m. Friday in the area of 17th Avenue North and 2nd Street North, where the officer was investigating a report of illegal fireworks.
Police say he saw a one-year-old standing alone in a roadway, and asked another child outside the house to find an adult when two dogs ran toward him through an open part of the fence.
The officer fired when one of the dogs lunged at him.
The dog was taken to a veterinarian and put down at the owner's request.
