BURLEY, Idaho -- The Cassia County Sheriff's Office says a 19-year-old woman has been arrested for arson for torching a Jeep that belonged to her ex-boyfriend.
Sheriff's deputies and firefighters with the Burley Fire Department were dispatched to a home west of Burley around midnight for a vehicle on fire. Witnesses told deputies they saw someone fleeing the scene who was also on fire.
Two local hospitals, Cassia Regional Medical Center and Minidoka Hospital, were alerted to check for someone with burns.
At 3:40 a.m. Minidoka Ambulance was dispatched to 16 South 3rd Street in Paul for a woman who claimed she was burned by hot water.
Deputies arrested 19-year-old Myra Gutierrez on outstanding warrants. She was taken to jail because she refused to go to the hospital for treatment.
While at the Mini-Cassia Criminal Justice Center, deputies say Gutierrez confessed to setting the Jeep on fire to get back at her ex-boyfriend. She is now charged with third-degree arson.
