BOISE -- The San Diego State Aztecs of the Mountain West Conference will face off against the Buffalo Bulls of the Mid-American Conference in the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl, bowl officials announced Sunday.

The game will take place at Bronco Stadium at 3:30 p.m. MT on Saturday, Dec. 21 and will be televised on ESPN.

The postseason opportunity is just the second in school history for the Bulls and the first since 2009.

We are excited to be going to the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl, said UB director of athletics Danny White. They do a great job with their bowl experience. The community really rallies behind it. For us, it s a big moment. The key is that we don t look back. We want to be enjoying this moment every year.

San Diego State athletic director Jim Sterk said the Aztecs are also excited about the match up, which will be their fourth straight bowl appearance.

(They re) a great team from the Mid-American Conference that has had some good wins, Sterk said. We re excited for (Aztec football coach) Rocky (Long), the kids and the University. It s a great day for the Aztecs.

This will be the first time either team has played in the Boise-based bowl game.

The Aztecs (7-5, 6-2 MWC) and Bulls (8-4, 6-2 MAC) both placed second in their respective conference divisions.

Utah State beat Toledo 41 - 15 in last year's game.
