PORTLAND -- A small dog was found in Portland Sunday night with a rubber band around its mouth that had likely been there for a week, animal control officials said.
The dog is a male Shih Tzu, between one and two years old. It was taken to Dove Lewis Emergency Animal Hospital after it was rescued, according to Henry Stern of Multnomah County Animal Services.
Emma Sample, 13, and Savannah Graham, 14, found the dog while taking a walk around their neighborhood in the St. Johns area.
It was shivering so we brought him to her house, Graham said. We found out he was bleeding from his mouth and his chin, and it was all running down his stomach.
Anybody with information was asked to call legal aid officer Michelle Luckey at (503) 988-6238.
We'd like to hear from anyone who knows who may own this dog or how this injury may have occurred, Stern added.
The dog was in MCAS custody while the matter was being investigated.
