SPOKANE, Wash. -- The arrival of winter weather in the Inland Northwest led to power outages across the area.

Friday night s heavywet snow caused widespread tree damage with multiple trees on power lines.

Kootenai Electric Cooperative reported more than 20 separate outages affecting more than 4,000 customers in North Idaho Saturday morning.Utility crews were working to restore power to those people Saturday and had been making progress. Power had been restored to around 2,000 KEC members by Saturday afternoon.

Avista Utility crews also reported widespread outages in Eastern Washington and North Idaho. More than 3,000 Avista customers were affected well into the afternoon.

Snow was expected to taper off later Saturday in the valleys but would continue in the mountains.
