BOISE -- Officials in Jerome County are investigating a case of animal cruelty.

The Twin Falls Animal Shelter says they've been receiving reports of missing dogs, but no one was prepared for the gruesome discovery found earlier this month.

The Twin Falls Animal Shelter was called after someone walking on a popular trail discovered a dog that was beaten and left for dead under a sheet.

According to witnesses, the German shepherd's head was crushed-in with boulders.

It's just very upsetting for everyone to see and try not to relive that suffering is very very difficult on a person and their well being, said Debbie Blackwood, Director for Twin Falls Animal Shelter.

The Humane Society of the United States is offering a $5,000 reward for any information leading up to the conviction of someone involved in animal abuse.

If you have any information on this crime, you're asked to call police.
